Join us for an armchair cruise down the Erie Canal

Wyatt Doremus will give a presentation on the Erie Canal: Then and Now on Monday, September 30th at 5 pm at the Vestal Public Library. This is a program that will appeal to all ages. Middle school and high school students might have a history or journalism project in which case the Erie Canal could be an interesting topic to write about. Wyatt Doremus has worked at various news stations in Rochester in the capacity of reporter. writer and producer. He is the recipient of a New York State Emmy for a documentary, “Flight to Freedom.” Included in his repertoire are documentaries on the Erie Canal, which celebrated its 200th year anniversary. Baby Storytime Is Now Tiny Tots Storytime!

Have you heard the news?! Baby Storytime is now going to be “Tiny Tots Storytime” starting in September!

Tiny Tots Storytime still has all the great things you love about Baby Storytime! We read 2 short stories, sing songs, and follow it up with open play to promote socialization!

If your tiny tot is not quite ready for our Toddler Storytime with crafts, then our Tiny Tots Storytime is a great place to start!

Open to ages 0-36 months. Meets every Friday at 10 a.m. No registration required!

The Erie Canal exhibit is at the Vestal Public Library for the month of August. The construction of the Erie Canal was completed October 26, 1825. When work on the canal was completed, it spanned 363 miles from Albany to Buffalo. For more information on the Erie Canal, visit:

Vestal Public Library Recipient of Tioga Downs Regional Community Foundation Grant

Empire Pass

Vestal Public Library now has the Empire Pass available to take out for the New York State Parks. Here are the rules:

They can circulate for one week (7 days). They cannot be renewed. They can be reserved. There is only one per family. The pass must be returned to the Vestal Public Library. If the pass is lost, you must pay for it. If overdue, it is a $1 a day fine. Please keep the pass in the plastic pocket on lanyard.

Online Practice Tests

The  Four County Library System provides the Library with several online test preparation databases for the driving exam, ACT, SAT, GED, and civil service. Here you will also find job tips. Go to research, click inside the square and scroll down.  Some may require your library card I.D. What is so neat is that after you take the test, you get to see the answers. Here are the choices:
