The Kitchen House (2010) written by Kathleen Grissom, a New York Times bestselling author writes about a dark secret that took place decades ago before the Civil War on a plantation in Virginia. Lavinia, an orphan arrives at the Kitchen House and is assigned to be an indentured servant. Grissom’s novel treats such themes as race, deep-buried secrets, and family bonds.
